The problem I have with this take is that we knew 4 years ago too. For some of them, we’ve known for decades. We should have already been primarying them out, but between local ratfuckery and a lack of funding for primary challengers, we’re stuck with these assholes at a critical moment.

Idk about resurgence, there’s still a lot of traditional sitcoms on TV. They all get like 7-8 seasons, they’re all the same kinda trash. I think the difference is just that we now occasionally get good ones.

I’m wondering if the people suggesting it for planetary travel have played Portal 2. It uh…it doesn’t end too well when they try.

Like, I can only shoot two portals ever? Single-use would imply only being able to shoot one portal, but that doesn’t seem very useful.

Also wasn’t portal travel hella toxic? To the point that it killed Cave Johnson? I sure as hell won’t be using it to save time on my commute or anything.

I think I’d have to use it for violence, like sending a war criminal off a large building, but you couldn’t even really have fun with it. Everyone fantasizes about launching a billionaire straight into space, but you’d need multiple portals to get them into a situation where they’re building momentum first.

Also, if there’s no material emancipation grids, are the portals just there forever? The portal gun doesn’t have an off switch or a way to deactivate existing portals.

I think at this point, organization efforts should be focused on evacuation and relocation of people from red states to blue states. Let the people who voted for this shit face all the inevitable consequences, and get the people who will most be in danger when Balkanization happens somewhere safe. They’re already killing trans people, it’s just gonna get worse.

Yeah unfortunately it seems like EA is still operating under the directive of “We want the Call of Duty/Fortnite audience,” and DA:V is a game made to appeal to that audience. I’ll never understand why they spend so much time and money to acquire incredible studios like Bioware and Visceral just to tell them “Actually those incredibly good games you made were stupid, you should make games like this.”

Have you played much of the rest of the series? DA:V is a perfectly adequate game with incredibly lukewarm themes in a series of pretty good games with dark and interesting themes. I think a lot of people, myself included, were hoping that after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, EA would turn to the studio that made Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 and say “I want that, make me a game like that.” Instead, we got a serviceable fantasy RPG. Fine if you really like that kinda thing, but I’ve only so much time for those games, and it’s much better spent on Avowed and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

I think it’s just because my last long-time partner was a man, so a lot of my current friend-group has only ever known me in a homosexual relationship. Also, a lot of my friends are gay, so it’s easier to be “one of the gays.” Gonna be real weird to be called gay when I’m in a technically het relationship.

You can make an argument for it mattering in the first film as well, but that starts examining the film from a lense of Ash, Weyland Yutani, and the Xenomorph being metaphors for the patriarchy.
