    no egg surcharges

    February USDA projections:

    https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-price-outlook/summary-findings

Egg prices in January 2025 were 53.0 percent higher than in January 2024 and surpassed the previous peak prices in January 2023. Egg prices are predicted to increase 41.1 percent in 2025

Farm-level egg prices are predicted to increase 82.6 percent in 2025

Maybe they have long-term contracts or something and a supplier is eating the loss. Because otherwise, that’s sounds like it’s going to get expensive for them, unless they’re going to have limited supply of McMuffins or something.

    EDIT: Ah.

    https://corporate.mcdonalds.com/corpmcd/our-stories/article/celebrate-50years-ofmornings-atmcd-special-deals-breakfast-favorites.html

Celebrate National Egg McMuffin Day: Because history makers deserve their own holiday. Grab an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg breakfast sandwich for just $1, available exclusively through the McDonald’s App on Sunday, March 2.*

You’re only getting their $1 Egg McMuffin if you install their app on your phone so that they can harvest data.

    EDIT2: And I bet they have a per-customer limit.

EDIT3: Though that only explains “$1 Egg McMuffin Day”, not a lack of surcharges in general.

They’re already price gouging. The egg prices exploding is probably just a blip in their current margins.
