As I’ve gotten older, I appreciate the birds more. I’ll be downstairs working and my partner will whisper down the stairwell “Come up stairssss!” And there will be a nuthatch or some shit on the tree outside the kitchen window. We keep a set of binoculars by the back door so we can spot some birds during our breaks. It’s not like we’re some Audubon bird wackos… It’s just pleasant to get a glimpse of an animal that could go almost anywhere choosing to be right here, right now.

    my cat

one time we found her chilling next to some baby squirrels (we couldn’t find the parents) and we were able to take them to an animal center

Best part of my morning is drinking my coffee next to my kitchen window and watching the magpies and crows fool around. Bonus points for perving on people walking their dogs and living vicariously through them.

I really love having a window with little animals outside. I have a bird feeder outside my window every winter, and I love to watch their shenanigans.

There was this one great tit who looked at the bird feeder (it’s transparent on the middle), flew on the top, started hastily digging the snow, and was sooo disappointed to find out that it couldn’t go inside the feeder.

Yeah, the little guy was soooo exited to get to birdseed paradise and then soooo sad that it had to eat the same way as everyone else.

As someone who walks the dog early in the morning… I watch the magpies, crows and other birds fool around while perving on the people drinking their coffee in the windows.

When you realize it’s just that people suck and make the world worse than it needs to be

So much this, people make the world suck and people can easily ruin your immediate world as well. But the right people in your life can not only make your immediate world amazing, they can also be your brothers in arms fighting for a better world with you.

And if all you accomplish is one tiny little mote of light in this world of darkness revel in the fact you made that little mote of light against the shadows.

        100%.

You may not be able to change the world, but you can change the world for a few people.

I don’t like it when people use light as a metaphor for good and dark as a metaphor for bad. It seems like it might exacerbate racist cultural biases at a subconscious level.
